Second idea

Idea Two

Name of Film:
AWRY

I have taken thought and consideration into the name of my film, it is quite an ambiguous word and could lead the audience wanting to know more. The word 'AWRY' is infact a synonym for the word gone wrong - which brings connotations itself.

About the film:

The film is set the city of Birmingham and is about a girl who finds a boyfriend after leaving school, who teacher her about the extremist of islam. She attends undercover meetings and is brainwashed into the extreme views of these people. Her and her boyfriend plan a terrorist attack on one of  Birmingham's trains but she falls pregnant and had frequent nightmares about the terrorist attack - shes from a normal family and realises what she is doing. She fails to go through with it and when meeting her boyfriend and before the attack shoots her boyfriend.

Characters:
Emma: The young girl who has left school
played by a 16 year old girl

Tony: Her boyfriend

Renny: Leader of Islam group
same age as Tony

Locations:

A train station and a train - I will use the train station near my house called wylde green which is a good spot to record.
A school to show where Emma used to go - I will use the school I attend, this to should keep my filming fairly straight forward and minimize the chance of things going wrong and if they do gives the opportunity to try again and again.
A secret location point for Emma and Tony - various meeting points could be used, I could ask my target audience which they think is most effective.
Mise-en-scene:
They all dress in normal clothes to hide there beliefs and views, such as jeans and plain tops. They look nothing out of the ordinary and like to discard themselves as 'normal' people with 'normal' views.

How it links to the narrative theorists:
Vladmir Propp: In AWRY, there is only three main characters. One being Emma, one being Tony and one being Renny. The idea of Propp's seven character roles are incorporated throughout the narrative. For example, even though Emma seems to be being brainwashed - she is able to save the people on the train by killing her boyfriend. This is a heroic decision she has to make and could lead to drastic consequences, yet she puts herself and her baby on the line so she can live her life for the better. In a sense, the public on the train are the princess' as they are the ones that need saving and Emma makes the decision to do this. The magical object that gives Emma the sense of worth and opens her eyes is her baby, meaning her body is the donor. The villain in the narrative is Renny, as he manages to brain wash Tony entirely and lives to brain wash people with ridiculous extremist views - killing people in the process. As Tony learns his traits, as an audience he will become much more of a Villain too.

Tzevetan Todorov: The state of equilibrium is seeing the couple in young in love, when everything is fine and they have received excellent A-Level results after studying hard. The events leading up to the bomb and the planning before hand is when we see the characters changing and as an audience you would begin to resent them and their choices. When Emma becomes pregnant, this is when everything seems like it could be resolved and neither of them would sacrifice their lives but Emma has to choose wether she should tell her family the news or think about the babies life. Emma goes through with the murder and the new state of equilibrium is Emma's life without her boyfriend and her new family.

Roland Barthes- The resolution through action was the murder of Tony, this part resolved the war against terror. Another code that is present in the narrative is the Enigma code, working out whether or not Emma will go through with it, or whether she will keep her baby. This keeps the audience thinking, in effect keeping them engaged.

Claude Levi-Strauss- The binary opposites present in the narrative are baby vs boyfriend, from the point of view of Tony girl vs boy and life vs death.
