After conducting two lots of research into two successful films and their trailers, I have began to build an idea on the genre I would like to work in. One genre I would like to work in is Crime Thriller. Thrillers themselves are meant to create tension and an 'on-edge' feeling within the audience and in order to do this many of these follow particular conventions. Most good thrillers such as The Departed, The Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Double Idemnity and Se7en all follow a particular narrative in order to make them effective as a film and appeal towards an audience.
Please use the links below to view each trailer.
The Departed, The Dark Knight, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Double Idemnity and Se7en
These film trailers range from 1944 to 2008, yet the conventions beneath the trailers lay almost the same.
The typical conventions of a Thriller include:
- Tense Music
- A Variety of Camera Angles
- Quick editing cuts
- The idea of the 'unknown'
- Claustrophobic spaces
- Sparse Dialog
