Mean girls representation within the trailer

Representation

Many different types of people are showcased to the audience in certain ways, through the use of the two characters Jess and Damian who label the different types of people in the school. This film is heavily based on high school and therefore has a lot of issues surrounding teenagers. We see all different teenagers from different backgrounds and how they are stereotypically grouped. In mean girls they are grouped depending on what they wear, with the plastics wearing pink to show they are girly and in fact bitchier, dumber but more 'popular'.

The age of the students means they are seen as much dumber and naive, with the older teachers being much wiser and clever. This is shown to the audience through the use of costume, being much smarter than the students choose to wear.

This film is particularly good for showing different types of cliques that are common in high school in America and England. The audience will be able to recognise these certain 'cliques' in there school and it's this that makes it such a relatable film with young teenagers and the life they lead at such an age. They also show the pressures of being this age, which again will raise awareness with those that haven't experienced it themselves but also make it relatable with the audience. Even though these cliques exist we find out throughout the film many of them are faced with life problems and deep down need each are very alike.

The film shows these cliques but by the end hopes to open the eyes and teach something to the younger generation, showing it's not all about being popular, about what you wear or what you own - which at first seems to be all that is on each of these individuals minds.
