Production team research

I have now joined with Megan and Claire to form our production company called Insignia. We are going to produce a trailer for a crime thriller together, as part of our A2 Media Studies coursework. In order to come up with our final narrative idea, we need to get more audience feedback. Audience feedback is key as these are the people that need to enjoy the film and their opinion matters more than our own. The audience feedback will enable us to decide whose idea's we will go forward with or if we will use elements of each.

We are going to reach our audience through the use of social media such as Twitter and Facebook, asking them which out of the three they prefer through the use of a survey. This is a good way to reach our target audience as it's quick and also targets a large group of people meaning we will have big set of results to analyse.

We will be asking our target audience through the use of a web based survey called 'Survey Monkey'. This is a great way to collect information and they give the options to share the survey over social networking platforms - which is what we are aiming to do. By using an online survey site, it will also improve my skills online and I will learn more about how to collect information electronically. Survey Monkey also offers options of graphs - which will be key for when we come to analysis the production team feedback and create our treatment and final idea.

The questions that we ask in our survey are going to be key. We don't want to keep it too long, or too short. We have came up with four questions, we think these will help us to decide which film idea we are going to go forward with.

I have written these questions below and included why I have chosen to ask each question:
  • Are you male or female?
I have chosen to include this so we can get a balanced view of opinions. The target audience for our film is both male and female; so we want something that appeals to both.
  • How old are you?
This question is another question which we have included to ensure a fair opinion between the ranges of a target audience. If we find that the idea that came through as most popular was only because of the age group we asked it could be unfair - this is why we need to ensure we get balanced and fair results.
  • Which idea you find most appealing?
This is out most important question as this is what we are ultimately going to base our whole trailer idea on going forward. We will included a short synopsis of each of our ideas and there will be 3 answers for them to choose from. To ensure it is fair we won't include our names and who thought of each idea will remain anonymous - this is particularly important as we are using social networking platforms to contact our survey-ers (which means we will know them)

  • Would you add or change anything from your most preferred idea?
This will be an optional comment box, where the surveyer will be able to comment further on the idea they have chosen and give any advice they suggest. These comments could give us further ideas that we could use going forward.
